Sixteen vehicles were taken off the roads and dozens of tickets were issued after significant safety concerns were identified as Niagara Regional Police, Hamilton Police, and the Ministry of Transportation conducted a Commercial Vehicle Enforcement blitz Thursday (Aug. 3) in Lincoln.
The search was in response to a community concern involving increased commercial motor vehicle traffic in Lincoln and West Lincoln.
“The focus of this initiative was to identify commercial vehicles intentionally bypassing the Vineland Inspection Station and to conduct in-depth vehicular inspections to ensure compliance with road safety standards, as legislated by the Province of Ontario,” police said.
Over 150 vehicles, both passenger and commercial were directed into the Vineland Inspection Station.
According to officers, 67 vehicles were selected for a comprehensive inspection, and 16 vehicles out of the bunch were found to be unsafe out on the roads.
Investigators also confirm that three sets of license plates were seized and 55 Provincial Offence Notices (tickets) were issued for various offences including license plates not being authorized for a vehicle, improper load, improper tires, and expired insurance.
Police remain committed to achieving its goal of enhancing road safety, as outlined in the 2022-2025 Strategic Plan.
