Niagara Region sees 18 new COVID-19 cases today

There were 18 new cases of COVID-19 in the Niagara Region, the first time the number has dropped into the teens since September 7.

On the positive side, with 33 resolved cases today, the region has dipped to 258 active cases.

As has been the case for the past month, the Delta variant is responsible being identified as absolute with 16 per cent of the cases and “likely” to be the cause for 84 per cent.

Before Delta ripped through Niagara, the month of August saw almost all single digit cases daily.

Niagara Falls leads the caseload with 72, followed closely by St Catharines at 69. Welland checks in at 33 cases while Thorold has 20.

The numbers for the remainder of the region run between West Lincoln with zero cases and Port Colborne with 13.
