The high-water levels and flooding of Lincoln’s shoreline back in the Springs of 2017 and 2019 are still being dealt with by the town to this day.

In fact, sections of the shoreline roads were hit so hard that they continue to deteriorate and erode, resulting in significant damage to both the road surface and foundation.

To that end, the town has to do a full Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (MCEA) Study on Lakeshore Road, Lakeside Drive and Sandy Cove Drive from Sam Road to Martin Road North, as well as a small section of Thirty Road North.

At the time of the floods, voluntary emergency evacuations were issued to 50 of the 120 homes located along the shoreline. And while emergency repairs to the shoreline and road are ongoing, the town says there are still long-term improvements and climate adaptation actions required.

The MCEA will also determine a recommended plan for the shoreline roads and enhance the resilience for access on lakeshore roads and their associated shoreline improvements. The area of study is shown below.

Since public engagement is vital, the town will be holding the first of two Public Information Centres virtually via Zoom on October 5  from 6 to 8 pm.
