500 cars pulled over in Thorold, Lincoln RIDE checks with no charges

Here’s a post-Christmas present for the Niagara Police and community.

On December 27, the police set up two RIDE spot-checks in Lincoln and Thorold. In the end, 500 cars were pulled over, 19 drivers were asked to give breathalyzers and there were zero charges – likely a first for a spot-check that size.

Police say the 19 drivers were free to carry on with their day.

“The Niagara Regional Police Service remains committed to reducing impaired driving offences through education and the apprehension of offenders through enforcement programs like R.I.D.E.,” they said afterwards.

Impaired driving remains the leading criminal offence causing death in Canada.
