After a nasty spike in new COVID-19 cases hit Niagara Region as the weekend approached, it looked like things may be getting out of control once again now that municipalities are closing in on a month of the restrictions being lifted by the Province.
Two high new case totals last Thursday (232) and Friday (188) were followed by more on Saturday (April 9) as Niagara added another 198 known new cases.
However, those high marks took a big tumble yesterday (April 10) as it dropped quickly to 71 new case followed by an even lower 46 new cases today.
While that sounds good, as recently as a week ago on April 4, the region also saw 21 new cases and the numbers started climbing quickly after that.
Of greater concern at the moment should be the ongoing cases in Niagara, which were hovering close to 1,000 in early March.
Ever since the Province lifted the COVID-19 mandates in mid-March, those numbers have shot back up, reaching as high as 1,648 yesterday. Fortunately, that number may be slowly drifting down as the region only had 1,606 ongoing cases today.
However, it hasn’t been under 1,000 cases since last August.
The case chart has seen a significant drop
in the past two day in Niagara Region.
