A Welland couple took Niagara Police on a crazy but dangerous chase through the streets yesterday (September 22).

At about 5 pm, detectives noticed a man and woman parked in their car in the parking lot of a 7-11 Convenience Store near Crowland Avenue and East Main Street in Welland. The pair were fading in and out of consciousness.

As they approached the car and tried talking to the man behind the wheel, he threw it in gear and took off, nearly clipping the officers.

Taking off down East Main Street, he eventually lost control and smashed into a pickup truck waiting at a red light at East Main and Wellington Street. The 31-year-old driver was not hurt.

Taking off again, the driver hopped the curb and smashed into a parked utility vehicle in the Niagara Battery and Tire lot. But he wasn’t done yet as he then smashed into the wall of the business.

Eventually, the pair fled on foot but the police nabbed both easily.

Stephan Jones, 32, of Welland, was charged on two counts of drug possession for trafficking, possession of stolen goods under $5,000, impaired driving, dangerous driving and leaving the scene of an accident.

Breanne O’Neal, 30, of Welland, was charged with two counts of drug possession for trafficking and possession of stolen goods under $5,000.
