Paramedics with Niagara EMS had a close call yesterday when one of their ambulances was struck by a vehicle while on the scene of a collision in Welland.
Emergency services were responding to the scene of a single-vehicle collision on northbound Hwy 406 just south of Woodland Rd.
An initial investigation into the collision determined that the vehicle struck the guardrail. There was possibly a lone, unconscious occupant in the vehicle.
Unfortunately, paramedics were momentarily distracted from the task at hand when one of their parked ambulances was struck by a vehicle. There were no injuries from the ambulance collision reported.
The driver of the vehicle did not stop after colliding with the ambulance. Members of the OPP immediately began pursuit of the vehicle.
There is no mention of the conclusion of the pursuit at this time.
“SLOW DOWN AND MOVE OVER! We all have families to get home to,” Niagara Paramedics said on Twitter. “Very thankful our members were not physically harmed in this incident.”
