Ka-ching! The City of Niagara Falls just got handed a first-quarter cheque totaling $6,386,158 from the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) for being a host community to two casinos.

The first quarter ran from April 1 to June 30 and the numbers are based on a formula consistently applied across all gaming sites in Ontario using a graduated scale of gaming revenue at the hosted site.

Since Casino Niagara first opened in December 1996, Niagara Falls has received $201,290,153 from the OLG. Fallsview Casino Resort followed, opening on June 10, 2004.

“Host communities support important community programs and services and strengthen their local infrastructure with these gaming revenues,” said Peter Bethlenfalvy, Ontario Minister of Finance.

“These financial supports help fund the vital programs and services that residents can depend on for their future.”

Both casinos are owned by the OLG but run by Mohegan Gaming and Entertainment out of Connecticut.

Since 1994, host communities have received more than $2 billion in non-tax gaming revenue.
