Police say an altercation that took place close to the tourist district in Niagara Falls ended with a gun seizure and arrest.
Niagara police say that shortly after 8 a.m. on Oct. 22, officers were called to the Stanley Avenue and North Street area to respond to reports of a physical fight between a man and a woman. Police allege that the fight escalated and the man pinned the woman against a wall, threw her phone and pushed her to the ground.
Paramedics treated the woman for minor injuries.
Police say that officers contained the area, as it was believed the male had weapons in his room. The suspect exited the house and was arrested without incident. A search warrant was executed and a scoped 308 hunting rifle was seized, according to police.
Desmond Macmorine, 23, was arrested and charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm, failing to comply with the conditions of his release from police custody and careless storage of a firearm.
The accused is expected to appear in court today.
