The best view of the Welland Canal is considered to be here at Lock 7, the highest point in the 43 kilometer long canal system with a live webcam up the hill in the main viewing booth.

Everyone loves going to Niagara Falls just to drink in the majesty of it. Likewise, the Welland Canal, now on its fourth version since its inception in 1829, is a unique look at lake-faring vessels going by and a must-visit for families at least once.

Border hoppers at the Peace Bridge between Fort Erie and Buffalo also might like a little heads-up before leaving the house on their automotive journey.

However, the simple fact is no one is going to travel to Niagara Falls, the Welland Canal and the Peace Bridge every day. That said, if you’d like to gaze upon them from the creature comforts of home, there is a modern option.

There are live webcams aimed at a number of Niagara attractions that people can access with the click of a mouse. Niagara Falls – being Niagara Falls – seems to have the most of any single location.

The Niagara Falls Live Cam from the Hilton Fallsview Hotel and Suites (6361 Fallsview Blvd.) is considered to be the official Niagara Falls webcam. It streams live 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, from the 53rd floor so people can enjoy the beauty of Niagara Falls from anywhere in the world and offers the closest view. You can find that webcam here.

If you prefer a more panoramic view, the Niagara Fallsview Casino Cam (6380 Fallsview Blvd.) via EarthCam is set back a little further and gives not only a great view of the Horseshoe Falls but also a better look at the Niagara City Cruises as they motor up to and close in on the Falls, as well as a better view of the surrounding nature. You can find this live streaming webcam here.

People can also admire the beauty of Niagara Falls with EarthCam’s live view from The Embassy Suites Niagara Falls Hotel (6700 Fallsview Blvd.), situated above the Table Rock Centre looking down onto the Falls. Close enough to clearly see the people walking along the fences beside the Falls. A magnificent sight that you can find here.

The Welland Canal, a 43 kilometer (27 mile) ship canal connecting Lake Ontario and Lake Erie, forms a key section of the St. Lawrence Seaway and Great Lakes Waterway. Travelling the Niagara Peninsula from Port Weller in St. Catharines to Port Colborne, its eight locks enable ships to ascend and descend the 99.5 meter (326 feet) elevation difference between the lakes. Lock 7 in Thorold, shown here, is the highest point of the canal system at 174.3 metres (572 feet) above sea level.

Finally, the Peace Bridge between Fort Erie and Buffalo isn’t what you’d call scenic. After all, it is a bridge meant to facilitate travellers, not enthral them. Opened on August 7, 1927, the Peace Bridge provides travelers and passersby with a pathway over the mighty Niagara River and the adjacent eastern end of Lake Erie. Here’s a view of the cars coming into Fort Erie on the left side and heading into Buffalo on the right side.
