A 16-year-old boy was taken to a trauma centre after he was hit by a car while walking on a sidewalk in St. Catharines, police say.

Niagara Regional Police said that the vehicle then left the scene.

On Monday at 4:33 p.m., emergency crews responded to the collision on Carlton Street between Roehampton and Grantham avenues, police said.

“Upon arrival, officers determined a collision occurred involving a white Kia Soul and a pedestrian who was walking west on the Carlton Street sidewalk,” police said.

“The pedestrian, a 16-year-old male resident of the City of St. Catharines was assessed at the scene and transported by paramedics to an out-of-region trauma centre for medical care.”

The Kia Soul was last seen heading west on Carlton Street, police said, adding that witnesses indicated the vehicle was in the area prior to the collision.

Anyone with information or video footage from the area was asked to come forward.
