Cat lovers might have thought something was always missing in a city known for its tourist attractions.

Now, that’s no longer the case.

A few weeks ago, the Niagara Falls Cat Cafe opened its doors to cat and coffee lovers alike. Located in the city’s downtown core, it’s actually the first business of its kind in the area.

Not only does the cafe function as a cat adoption centre working with various shelters, but it also offers a full menu of brunch, soups, salads, sandwiches, shareables, and desserts.

Founded by a local family that’s passionate about cats, the cafe’s website says the interactive space merges “the enjoyment of refreshments with the company of cats” and invites visitors to unwind, play with cats and maybe form a unique and special bond with someone who could become a member of their family.

“Cafe visitors who form a special bond with a particular cat are provided the opportunity to adopt that cat through whichever shelter is partnered with the establishment,” the website reads.

While food is not allowed in the cat enclosure, guests can sip their drinks while playing with kitties.

As far as food goes, brunch options include avocado toast, waffles, pancakes and even a breakfast charcuterie board. Soups, salads and sandwiches include a Cobb, a Caesar, French onion, a beef dip and grilled cheese. They also serve crab dip, shrimp cocktail and a mac n’ cheese sampler.

For dessert there’s an ice cream sundae and cheesecake, and a typical range of cafe drinks are available including coffee, tea, espresso-based drinks, lemonade and soft drinks.

While the menu is vast, guests do not have to purchase food to access the special cat enclosure. Reservations for cat time are encouraged as the enclosure has a capacity limit. The fee for spending time in the cat room varies depending on how long you stay.

All cats in the enclosure are available for adoption on-site in partnership with Pets Alive Niagara. The cafe also takes donations to ensure their cats have the best possible care.

According to the website, three cats have been adopted out of the facility this year.

Niagara Falls Cat Cafe can actually even be reserved for private events for the kitty party of your dreams.
