Canadian travellers can skirt use of ArriveCAN app – but one time only!

It seems the federal government have ever so slightly lifted a restriction of vacationers returning to Canada from the United States.

Some travellers are getting to slide on the use of the ArriveCAN app but to be clear, it’s one time and one time only.

The government loosens its rules on the app to allow a one-time exemption but there are conditions. It’s only applicable to fully vaccinated travellers and open to those who have not had a history of refusing to use the app at the border previously.

At the moment, Niagara Falls MP Tony Baldinelli, Niagara Falls Mayor Jim Diodati and Fort Erie Mayor Wayne Redekop have all asked the government to drop the app completely, saying it is negatively affecting the number of tourists coming into Canada.

However, the new one-time loophole is available only to Canadian tourists returning home and not foreign tourists coming into Canada.

While most think this is a new initiative, the government says the exemption was used over 300,000 times between May 24 and August 4.
