A collision between a car and a transport truck yesterday (March 28) in Fort Erie had left two seniors in serious and potentially life-threatening condition.
At about 3:30 pm, Niagara Police arrived on the scene at the Bowen Road and Pettit Road area of Fort Erie to find that the car was struck so hard, it crashed into the ditch.
The driver of the car, a 78-year-old woman from Fort Erie, was suffering from life-threatening injuries while the passenger, an 81-year-old male passenger from Fort Erie, had suffered serious injuries, as well.
The 53-year-old male driver from Kitchener of the transport truck was not hurt at all.
However, the accident was bad enough that the on and off ramps of the QEW at Bowen Road were closed to keep traffic away from the accident scene and were not reopened until just after midnight.
The car was a write-off while the transport truck had $6,000 worth of damage.
Detectives from the Collision Reconstruction Unit are investigating the collision with assistance from detectives from the Forensic Services Unit.
