Conservative candidate takes time off campaign to celebrate car dealership’s 75th

Campaigning is hot and sticky work but that doesn’t mean a candidate can’t take a breather and check out a seriously cool car show.

Tony Baldinelli, the incumbent and Conservative candidate for the Niagara Falls-Fort Erie-Niagara-on-the-Lake riding, took time away from that door-to-door knocking and popped by Niagara Motors on August 28 for the dealership’s 75 anniversary.

The Virgil dealership, first established in 1946, did their birthday up right with a Show ‘N’ Shine featuring dozens of classic General Motors cars.

With the proceeds from a BBQ and other events, the dealership donated all of it to Red Roof Retreat, an organization that helps out the special needs community.

“Before our canvas yesterday afternoon, I made a point of visiting with and congratulating Dave Dick and his family on the 75th Anniversary of their business, Niagara Motors,” said Baldinelli. “Throughout the years, we have dealt with Niagara Motors.”

And that involved a couple of generations, too.

“My father-in-law, Harry, loved dealing with Dave Sr., and I purchased my 2012 Acadia from Dave,” the MP recalled.

Both Dave and Ella Dick have won the individual Citizen of the Year award for their volunteer work.

On the business front, the Chamber of Commerce named Niagara Motors Company of the Year for 2001.

And though the name of Virgil Businessmen’s Association has now been changed to Virgil Business Association, there’s still a Dave Dick involved, albeit the Junior Dave.
