Delta variant of COVID-19 continues to hit Niagara Region

The Delta variant wave of new COVID-19 cases continues to splash down hard in the Niagara Region.

With 17 new cases being reported by Niagara Health today (August 23), pushing the active case file to 148, the Delta variant is listed as either the cause or likely to be the cause of 96.5 per cent of them.

St Catharines, the most populous community in Niagara, continues to lead the way with 51 active cases, followed by Niagara Falls with 37. Welland and Lincoln round out the top-four with 16 and 11 cases respectively.

Only Wainfleet has zero cases while the other seven municipalities run between three and six active cases.

So far, 71.5 per cent of all eligible Niagara residents have received one vaccine dose while 64.6 per cent are fully vaccinated.
