A father and son took the ultimate road trip on July 15, driving from Virginia and Niagara Falls – yes, our Niagara Falls – for the ultimate Canadian treat. No, not poutine or real maple syrup – ketchup potato chips.
The unnamed duo – the son’s first name is Jacob but nothing else is known – drove to Jim’s No Frills (6460 Lundy’s Lane) from straight up American highway I-81 North for roughly nine straight hours to get Lay’s Ketchup Chips and they left the store with a cart-load loaded with the tomato-flavoured goodies.
Jim’s No Frills posted photos of the pair and their salty haul on social media with the caption: “Father-son road trip from Virginia to Canada for some Ketchup Chips!”
The post struck a chord with readers who loved the fact the father and son would drive 828 km (515 miles) just to get Jacob’s favourite treat.
One Facebook poster noted, “This is just so heart-touching. I love that you made a road trip with your son to come to Canada to get something you both enjoy. I wish you both safe travels back to Virginia. Much love from Canada!”
“I’m in Florida but originally I’m from Ontario. I ask people to bring me ketchup chips when they come to visit,” said another.
