Fireworks paused at Niagara Falls for second consecutive night

For the second consecutive night, Niagara Parks will hit the pause button on the fireworks over Niagara Fall over concerns of the poor air quality in the region due to the wildfires in Quebec and northeast Ontario.
“Due to the impact of the wildfires burning across the country, and the associated air quality advisories in many areas of Canada, including in Niagara, this evening’s Niagara Falls Fireworks program is being paused again this evening, Thursday, June 8, 2023,” said Niagara Parks in a release.
This could also have an immediate impact on the 40-minute Falls Fireworks Cruise run by Niagara City Cruises that began on May 19, running Fridays through Sundays.
While the fireworks only run for five minutes, starting at 10 pm each night, the 40-minute cruise was created to give passengers an up-close-and-personal view of the fireworks from below.
“Nothing beats the experience of sailing to the base of the Falls, with a panoramic view of a starry sky, the iconic Niagara Falls skyline and, of course, fireworks that light up the sky,” said Mory DiMaurizio, COO of Niagara City Cruises, just before the fireworks cruises launched.
How long the pause button stay hit on the fireworks is a day-to-day situation. Niagara Parks says, “Air quality conditions will be reviewed on a daily basis, with updated status reports issued at noon.”
This could have a much longer effect on the Niagara City Cruises, as well, since starting on June 16, the Falls Fireworks Cruises were set to sail daily until Labour Day on September 4.
