Former Niagara IceDogs forward Josh Ho-Sang was hoping to end his professional try-out at Toronto Maple Leafs’ training camp with a contract.

The former leading scorer at the Meridian Centre in St Catharines got one last night (October 5). Perhaps it’s not quite the one he was hoping for but nonetheless, a contract is better than no contract.

Ho-Sang just inked a one-year deal with the Toronto Marlies, the American Hockey League team that’s one step away from the big leagues.

As well as keeping the speedy, play-making forward within the Leafs organization, the Marlie contract means Ho-Sang doesn’t need to pass through waivers.

If the Leafs wish to promote him, then he can sign an NHL deal.

The 25-year-old joined the Leafs camp in an attempt to restart his NHL career after getting placed on waivers by the New York Islanders in January 2021. He was the Isle’s first-round pick in 2014.

He spent the 2020-21 season in the Swedish Hockey League with Örebro HK and Linköping HC.
