On its Facebook page, Pelham said it was aware “demonstrations that are currently in the planning stages for public spaces within the community.”

However, the post doesn’t specify what exactly. After further questioning, the response came back. “The understanding is a Freedom Demonstration.”

It would seem even after being cleared out of Ottawa and Windsor, the “Freedom” people aren’t quite done yet. However, it seems the tiny town got wind of a demonstration coming – no date was mentioned – and is getting prepared.

” The Town will be monitoring the events to ensure that participants adhere to municipal by-laws and is in consultation with Niagara Regional Police on the demonstration,”  Pelham said in a release.

As well, it said while Pelham recognizes and respects the Charter-protected right to free speech, they are also hoping “the demonstrators be respectful towards Town property to ensure that public spaces remain undamaged and available for all to enjoy.”

Pelham acknowledges “these events can be frustrating for the community and will continue to provide updates as available.”

And in a final word, they offered up one simple hope. “Please be kind to each other.”

There have been recent protests in the Pelham’s past. Niagara Region Public Health acting Medical Officer of Health Dr. Mustafa Hirji lives in Pelham and in late December, a group of anti-vaxxers, one armed with a megaphone, stood out front of his home, chanting using usual litany misinformation.

That protest drew the ire of Niagara Regional Chair Jim Bradley, who said afterwards, “I am both frustrated and saddened that yet again we are witnessing the harassment of Dr. Hirji by a small group of people.”

He added, ““I also believe that we have to hold individuals accountable when their actions are over the line. Actions that could be perceived as a threat to the health and safety of a member of our community will not be tolerated.”
