Of the gas stations in the Niagara Region municipalities, driver can find gas under $2/litre in only five of them as of today (May 16) and even then, most stations in those towns and cities are well over that threshold.
As of 9 am, the website, Gasbuddy.com, showed that smattering of locations under $2/litre and most municipalities in Niagara didn’t make the cut.
St. Catharines, Niagara Falls, Pelham, Lincoln (Beamsville), West Lincoln (Smithsville), Grimsby and Wainfleet have no stations in town under $2/litre.
Keeping in mind these are all posting during morning rush hour and that they may not be true by midday, in Welland, the 7-Eleven at 6 Crowland Ave has gas at 192.9 cents/litre while the Pioneer at 554 Niagara St showed it at 198.6 cents/litre.
In Thorold, the Gales at 157 Collier Rd S is just under the threshold at 199.6 cents/litre.
In Port Colborne, the Pioneer at 599 Main St W and the Canadian Tire at 287 West Side Rd were both showing gas at 194.5 cents/litre.
In Fort Erie, the Flying J at 1637 Pettit Rd and the Esso at 1645 North Service Rd were both showing gas for 192.9 cents/litre.
In Niagara on the Lake, two Gales stations, one at 1487 Niagara Stone Rd, the other at 1353 York Rd, were both showing prices of 199.6 cents/litre.
Whiles there is no increase expected tonight, Canadians for Affordable Energy President Dan McTeague also added there is no relief in sight. He believes short supplies are the result of Russia’s decision to invade Ukraine and the imposed sanctions by other nations, including Canada, since the invasion.
