While it still has to be passed by Grimsby Town Council on April 18, it looks like the town will be offering three days of grace on overdue residential tax bills.
In an interesting twist, the the Committee of the Whole okayed the motion on Monday (April 4), they also decided that it would be three business days, rather than a straight 72 hours.
That means any resident will a tax bill due on a Friday would not be penalized so long as they paid it by the following Wednesday.
“This change would provide Grimsby residents with greater financial support during the tax payment process,” said the town after the April 4 meeting.
As well, the town is going to make the change retroactive back to March 1, meaning anyone who are charged interest or drew penalities would be issued a credit on their next tax bill.
