The first casualty of the huge snow dump in Fort Erie overnight is Kris Kringle himself. Fort Erie has canceled its Santa Claus Parade that was set for November 19 at 5 pm.
The Fort Erie road department made the call late Thursday (November 17) in anticipation of a possible six feet (90 cm) of the white stuff being predicted by weather services.
Parade organizers said rescheduling the parade at this late date would be impossible as the bands and other entertainment have been booked elsewhere for months now.
The town itself said, despite the weather, it’s business as usual, tweeting out: “Town of Fort Erie buildings will be open today Friday, Nov 18, 2022 and town services will be available to residents. The weather will be monitored throughout the day and operations will be managed accordingly. Residents pls stay home where possible.”
Transit will be affected today as On-Demand has said wait times will be longer than usual.
“On-Demand Transit may experience significant delays with scheduled pick-up and drop-off times. Please allow extra time to get to your destination,” the service tweeted.
“We may have to cancel partial or full service depending on road conditions. Please continue to monitor the website and social media for more info.”
They noted that road conditions would impact vehicle arrivals, “therefore, in order to be sure of your wait times and to monitor your vehicle’s movements, please consider using the app to track your ride. You will be able to see your vehicle pick up in real-time.”
The transit service said when booking rides during inclement weather, residents could call 1-833-BUS-LINE (287-5463) to ensure that the vehicle can get to their area.
Fort Erie On-Demand Transit is up and running today but expect delays in arrival times.
