Indigenous leader to receive honourary degree from St Catharines university

A leader in the Niagara Region Indigenous community, Ava Hill will be giving the Convocation address, as well as receiving an Honourary Degree from Brock University next Friday (October 15) during the St Catharines’ school’s virtual 110th Convocation.

At 11 am on October 15, the speaking and ceremonial elements of a traditional ceremony will take place live at brocku.ca/livestream with students, their friends and families and really, anyone around the world.

Hill, an Indigenous leader who served 15 years on the Six Nations Elected Council, including two terms as Elected Chief, was born on the Six Nations Reserve and is a Wolf Clan Mohawk.

She is a co-chair of a Working Group that is creating a Declaration on Reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples Through Sports. She was also appointed as a Board Director for Commonwealth Sport Canada and is a member of the Canadian Advisory Board for Right to Play.

Brock Interim President Lynn Wells and Chancellor Hilary Pearson, who will both speak during the Convocation, will be giving Hill her Honourary degree.
