More than 51 charges were laid, and 13 vehicles taken off the road after a joint roadside commercial motor vehicle safety inspection by Niagara Regional Police, Halton Police, Ministry of Transportation, and the Town of Lincoln on Tuesday (August 13).
With concern over increased motor vehicle traffic in Vineland, the focus of the joint initiative was to identify commercial motor vehicles intentionally bypassing the Town of Lincoln Inspection Station and to conduct in-depth vehicular inspections to ensure compliance with road safety standards, as legislated by the Province of Ontario.
A total of 39 vehicles were “comprehensively” inspected and as a result a total of 13 vehicles were removed from the highway after significant safety concerns were identified.
As well, two sets of licence plates were subsequently removed and seized.
In total, 51 charges were laid including overweight, improper load covering, incorrect vehicle registration, improper daily inspection.
Out of service defects that were identified include brake adjustments, leaking fluid systems, leaking brake lines, insecure loads as well as charges for weight infractions and improper inspection reports were issued.
“The Niagara Regional Police Service remains committed to achieving its identified goal of enhancing road safety, as outlined in the 2022-2025 Strategic Plan,” said Niagara police.
