After some weird case spikes lately, it seems that perhaps the new cases of COVID-19 in Niagara Region have dropped to a more reasonable level with just five new ones being reported today (August 24).
With 17 existing cases being resolved, that drops the number of active cases in the region to 136. While that’s a big step down from recent numbers, just three weeks ago, Niagara was at a 2021 low of only 44 cases.
The Delta variant remains the leading cause, accounting for 96.5 per cent of all Niagara cases.
St Catharines continues to be the case leader, registering 46 of the existing cases, followed by Niagara Falls at 36. Welland and Lincoln are now a far distance behind with just 13 and 11 cases respectively.
Wainfleet continues to be the only municipality with zero cases.
