Lincoln setting up purchase of Beamsville District Secondary School

Lincoln is poised to buy Beamsville District Secondary School (BDSS) once the District School Board of Niagara (DSBN) shifts it into their surplus property folder.

The school, built in 1888, has seen thousands of students and teachers roam its hallways over the past century-plus and is much beloved by the local community.

However, it’ll be a couple years yet before it shifts to the DSBN surplus property folder as it’s still going to be open for at least a year, perhaps later.

Since that’s the case, discussions between the DSBN and Lincoln have been taking place regarding the future potential for the site and to keep the process moving forward, Lincoln will create a letter of intent to purchase the property, marking the first step towards a formal agreement.

“Once again, the Town of Lincoln is showing leadership by taking initiative on matters that will have a positive impact on Lincoln and all of west Niagara. This site will be a focal point and central hub in Lincoln and contribute to the long-term health and well-being of the community,” said Lincoln Mayor Sandra Easton.

Lincoln CAO Michael Kirkopoulos cited the appeal of owning a property that is not only centrally located in Beamsville and within walking distance of many amenities and services, but one that is also rich in history.

“The site has great potential and we’re pleased to be the primary partner at the table on this important land purchase that has many potential community benefits,” Kirkopoulos said.

BDSS, as well as South Lincoln High School, Grimsby Secondary School, are all slated for eventual closure by the DSBN when the construction of West Niagara Secondary School was announced.

While the opening of the new high school was slated for September 2022, construction just broke ground in June.
