Man charged after driver sitting in St. Catharines parking lot stabbed

Niagara Police have charged a 38-year-old man after a driver sitting in a St. Catharines parking lot was stabbed on May 27.
Police were called to the lot on Gale Cres. near Riordon St. where they found a 40-year-old St. Catharines man suffering from a stab wound to his left hand.
They sent him to the hospital where he was treated and released.
They discovered that the suspect, an acquaintance of the victim, approached him, asking if he had change for $20. When he said no, the suspect pulled a knife and allegedly stabbed him. The driver left in his car to get away, calling the cops. Police found the suspect nearby.
Kelvin Justin Bascus, 38, has been charged with assault with a weapon.
He was held for a bail hearing on May 28 via video link to the John Sopinka Courthouse in Hamilton and is now in the custody of Ontario Correctional Services.
