Man charged in fatal hit-and-run in Niagara Region

Police are asking for help identifying suspect who broke into a worship centre in Niagara Region

A Fort Erie man faces charges in a fatal hit-and-run crash in Niagara Region.

A 51-year-old Port Colborne man was found by family members in critical condition around 4:30 a.m. on Sunday, Niagara Regional Police said.

He had been walking southbound on the east side of Silver Bay Road, east of Port Colborne, when he was struck by a vehicle hours before, just before 11 p.m. on Saturday, police said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police put out a call to find a black 2006-2010 Jeep Commander, believed to be involved in the collision.

Around 9 p.m. on Oct. 6, a man turned himself in to police.

Tyler James MacDonald, 37, of Fort Erie has been arrested and charged with failing to stop after an accident – resulting in death.

MacDonald was held in custody for a video bail hearing to the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines on Oct. 7.

Police seized a black Jeep Commander with front driver’s side damage from a residence in Fort Erie.
