Niagara police are investigating a pedestrian collision in Welland early this morning (August 29).

Around 5:15 a.m., police say an officer was attending a call for service when he witnessed a pedestrian in the middle of the southbound lane on Crowland Avenue near Welland Street.

“As a result, the officer stopped his vehicle and activated his emergency lights to attend to the pedestrian,” said police.

Before the officer could assist, the pedestrian was struck by a 55 year old male driving a black Honda Civic going southbound on Crowland.

The pedestrian, a 33 year old male, was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The driver did not sustain any physical injuries, police say.

Detectives with the Collision Reconstruction Unit are continuing to investigate.
