Man wearing clown mask assaults 9-year-old boy in St. Catharines

Officers in Niagara are on the hunt for a man wearing a painted black clown mask after he reportedly assaulted a 9-year-old boy in St. Catharines.
Niagara Regional Police met with the 9-year-old victim and his parent in the area of Pelham Rd. and St. Paul Crnt. shortly after 8 a.m. yesterday (Oct. 9).
The boy described the interaction to police, saying he was walking on Pelham Rd. (near house number 48) between Rykert St. and Antwerp St. when an unknown man wearing a clown mask approached him, grabbed his arm, and pulled.
“Your mom sent me; I have candy for you,” the masked man said to the boy.
The fearful boy reportedly struck the man twice and successfully ran to a safe place to call their parent.
The 9-year-old victim did not receive any physical injuries as a result of the altercation.
Officers, detectives, and a Niagara police K9 Unit searched the area for the suspect but did not find anything.
The suspect who assaulted the boy is described as a 6-foot-3 Black man with a chubby/muscular build, bald head, and a deep, low-pitched voice, speaking clear English.
At the time of the incident the suspect was shirt-less, wearing short dark pants, two different types of sandals, and a painted black Halloween clown mask.
The victim says that the suspect is of no fixed address/homeless.
The investigation has been assigned to 1 District detectives with the assistance of the Child Abuse Unit.
