Mississauga-based e-scrap firm expanding to Welland

Niagara Region residents will soon have another option for contributing to sustainability and the ‘circular economy.’

Mississauga-based eCycle solutions, an e-scrap and IT asset disposition (ITAD), recently announced that it will be opening a location in Welland. The 8,750-sq.-ft. facility will recycle metals, electronics and various household items. It means end-of-life and scrap materials can re-enter the global supply chain.

“While we implement our ambitious growth strategy by expanding our footprint in the Niagara Region, we take pride in continuing to offer Canadians alternatives for reuse, recycling and waste diversion,” Michael Collins, president and CEO of eCycle Solutions, said in a release.

Such businesses also offer support to producers of electronics and electrical equipment. An Ontario law that became effected as of Jan. 1 puts the responsibility on producers to collect and manage their products and packaging once consumers are finished with them.

The Welland facility is expected to create up to 10 full-time jobs, and eCycle Solutions has said it plans further expansion in Ontario. It also operates in Alberta, British Columbia and Quebec.
