Mom’s advice helps lotto winner pay down her mortgage in St. Catharines

A little motherly advice went a long way for a lucky St. Catharines woman.

Today, OLG announced that Aimee-Rose Tupaz matched the last six of seven Encore numbers in the exact order in the Sept. 14, 2024, Lotto 6/49 draw to win $100,000.

Tupaz told OLG she has been playing the lottery on and off for about five years. When her mom suggested adding Encore to all her tickets, she decided to take the advice.

Now, she’s celebrating her first big win!

“I scanned my ticket on the OLG app. When I saw the ‘Big Winner’ message come up, I was sure the app must be wrong,” Tupaz told OLG.

“I scanned my ticket again and was so surprised. I never thought I would win big! I sent a screenshot of my prize amount to my parents, and they were just as shocked. Like me, they couldn’t believe I had won.”

Tupaz plans to put her windfall towards paying off her mortgage.

The winning ticket was purchased at Avondale on Rockwood Avenue in St. Catharines.
