Morning collision in St. Catharines kills one, hospitalizes another

One person is dead, a second hospitalized after a serious collision in the Third St. Louth and Fifth Ave. Louth area at 7:45 am this morning (June 16) in St. Catharines.

Niagara Police have reported that an 86 year old woman from St. Catharines died and an 81 year old male driver, also from St. Catharines, had to be extricated from his car by members of St. Catharines Fire Services. He is currently in the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

Police believe that the car holding the two seniors was stopped but then pulled into the path of an oncoming Dodge Ram pickup truck towing a trailer

While police say the investigation is ongoing, so far no charges have been laid. No one else was injured in the collision.

The truck trailer was subsequently towed to the Vineland Weigh Station where the Ministry of Transportation assisted with the investigation, while the City of St. Catharines and Fire Department assisted with oil contaminant clean up following the collision.
