The COVID-19 new cases in Niagara Region are starting to settle down again after a bizarre spike on Wednesday (March 2) saw 119 cases on that day alone.

However, it’s seen a two day drop with 82 new cases yesterday and 67 today. That leaves the region with a seven-day average of 68.2 known new cases per day, the lowest it’s been in 2022. The lowest day this week was Monday with 31 new cases.

Sadly, there was another death Thursday, pushing Niagara to 519 COVID-19 fatalities since March 2020.

At the moment, there are 61 COVID-19 patients in Niagara hospital but only a few are in ICU.

Residents looking to get vaccinated this weekend can visit the Port Colborne Visitor Information Centre this weekend as a clinic is open today until 6:30 pm, as well as tomorrow and Sunday from 9:30 am to 6:30 pm.

Kids aged five to 11 can get a first or second shot and anyone 12 and older can get a first, second or third dose. Walk-ins are welcome.
