New COVID-19 cases back to climbing in Niagara Region

After starting the week on Monday with just 44 new cases (fourth lowest day over the last month), new COVID-19 cases in Niagara are starting to skyrocket again.
Even worse, the ongoing case numbers hasn’t been this high since the Delta variant wave hit hard in September.
After Monday’s low mark, new cases jumped to 118 on Tuesday (April 12) and they didn’t sit there. They kept climbing on Wednesday, reaching 151 new cases.
More of the same today (April 14) as Niagara soared to 195 new cases, the third worst day after April 7 (231 new cases) and April 9 (196).
But it’s the ongoing cases that are also skyrocketing as today there are 1,864 cases in Niagara, up over 100 from yesterday’s 1,725. Just five weeks ago, that number hovered near 1,000 so it has nearly doubled since then.
So far, two mayors in Niagara – St. Catharines’ Walter Sendzik and Lincoln’s Sandra Easton – have caught COVID-19, as has Hamilton Mayor Fred Eisenberger, all within the last two weeks.
