An overnight confrontation in Niagara Falls has led to an arrest and one person hospitalized with serious injuries.
At 2:39 a.m. on Jan. 7, Niagara Regional Police responded to a disturbance in the area of Ferry Street near Temperance Avenue.
Officers located a 42-year-old man suffering from a serious cut on his upper torso.
The victim was assessed at the scene by paramedics and then transported to an out-of-town trauma centre where he is now in stable condition.
Police say the suspect, who attempted to flee on foot, was located and arrested approximately 200 metres away from the scene.
“The injuries sustained to the victim have been determined to have occurred as a result of having been pinned by the suspect against a sharp edge in a nearby wrought iron fence,” said police.
19-year-old Jesse Weichmann of Bliss, New York has been charged with one count of aggravated assault.
He was held for a bail hearing scheduled on Jan. 7 via video link to the John Sopinka Courthouse in Hamilton.
