Niagara Falls man busted in Fort Erie on weapons charges, threats

What started as what the Niagara Police thought was a simple breach of release violation in Fort Erie turn a far more serious turn for a Niagara Falls man last weekend.

On March 19, Niagara Police were called to the Niagara Boulevard and Bertie Street area in Fort Erie, simply because the suspect’s release order forbid him from being in that neighbourhood.

Once there, they determined that he was allegedly involved in a knife threat the same day in the Gorham Road and Dominion Road area of town.

While he had taken off before they arrived, the police soon found him in the Lewis Street and Kee Lane area where he was instantly arrested for failing to comply with a release order.

However, he soon found he had a cache of weapons and drugs, including a switch blade knife, two Glock style semi-automatic pellet handguns, an axe machete, a knife and black sheath (used in the weapon incident), a small quantity of suspected cocaine and a “Preferred Customer Card” in another person’s name, which the police believe was stolen.

Michael Vincent McGuire, 31, of Niagara Falls was charged with assault with a weapon, uttering threats, assault, possession of a restricted weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, carrying a concealed weapon, drug possession, possession of crime property under $5,000 and two counts of initial failure to comply with release order.

He was held in custody and after attending a video bail hearing in Hamilton, he remains in custody.
