Niagara Falls roads face closure for cancer center fundraising cycling event

While the Ride for Roswell might be a Buffalo-area fund-raising initiative, it’s coming with a distinctly Canadian side to the charity cycling event this year.

Slated for June 24, the cyclists, raising money for the Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center in Buffalo, will be coming across the border for the first time since 2019.

That means some portions of Niagara Parkway from Fort Erie’s Peace Bridge to the Rainbow Bridge in NiagaraFalls will be fully or partially closed from 5 a.m. until 11 a.m.

A single curbside lane closure of the northbound lanes of the Niagara Parkway from Upper Rapids Boulevard to Clifton Hill will be in place during that time.

A full closure of all northbound lanes of the Niagara Parkway from Table Rock to Murray Street will also be in place from 5 a.m. until 11 a.m. All northbound traffic in this area will be diverted to the southbound lanes, which will operate in an opposing traffic pattern.

That said, Buffalo organizers are thrilled to be including the Canadian portion of the route for the first time since the pandemic started.

“The Canada Route is back for the first time since 2019!” they said. “Riders will travel 44 miles (77 km) along the Niagara Parkway with special lanes across both the Peace Bridge and the Rainbow International Bridge. Enjoy a river view from start to finish.”

“This was one of the community’s favorite routes prior to the COVID-19 pandemic and we are so excited to open it up to riders again.”

For the cross-border experience, organizers said there is a $750 fundraising minimum.
