Niagara Health releases COVID-19 stats comparing fully-vaxxed vs single dose, unvaxxed

In an effort to boost vaccinations in the Niagara Region, Acting Medical Officer of Health Dr. Mustafa Hirji monitored a 28 day count of COVID-19 cases in the unvaccinated, first dose vaccinated and fully-vaxxed.
The end count, released yesterday (September 8), showed a marked difference between the three groups in Niagara.
“You are 8.4 times more likely to get COVID-19 if you are unvaccinated than fully-vaccinated,” Hirji said.
He added that single-dosers are 3.7 times more likely to contract it.
As for those who think they’re good after a single, another Niagara Health official spoke to that fallacy.
In a taped piece called “Ask Dr. Azim” where local residents ask Dr. Azim Kasmani, Associate Medical Officer of Health questions about issues surrounding the pandemic, he was asked, “I’ve already had my first vaccine. Why do I need a second one?”
Kasmani answered, “Basically the first dose you get starts the process of building protection. And then the second dose reinforces the protection with your immune system.”
“You really need that second dose to be protected fully against the virus.”
