While new COVID-19 cases in Niagara Region are on the decline, the fight is far from over as another five Niagara residents have sadly passed over the past week, bringing the death total to 555.
The past seven days – May 10 to 16 – started high and then dropped quite low although we have seen figures set by Niagara Region Health for any one day rise when reported the next day.
The numbers rounding out Tuesday to Friday last week (May 10 to 13) were all double digit but still on the higher side.
Tuesday, May 10 shows 63 new COVID-19 cases and that dropped slightly to 56 the following day.
However, by Thursday, May 12, it was right back up to 62 new known cases before Friday The 13th dipped down to 47.
The region has stopped releasing numbers on the weekend, holding those numbers for Monday, so when released today the Saturday and Sunday numbers were 34 and 31 new known cases respectively.
While today (May 16) seems very low at just 12 cases as stated earlier, today total could be higher by as early as tomorrow.
At the moment, the region is reporting 1,128 known ongoing cases in Niagara. However, they continue to warn that “case counts are an underestimate of the true number of individuals in Niagara with COVID-19.”
They added that all data should be interpreted with caution.
