The Niagara-on-the-Lake’s Council Chambers at Town Hall will finally be reopened to all for its August 22 council meeting.

After more than two years of being closed to the public, the Niagara-on-the-Lake’s Council Chambers at Town Hall will finally be reopened to all for its August 22 council meeting.

“After two years of virtual meetings, I look forward to having members of the public join us in the Council Chambers once again,” stated Lord Mayor Betty Disero.

Initially, the Chambers will reopen with a capacity limit of 30 people (excluding Council Members and Staff). The capacity limit is a temporary measure to ensure the Town’s reopening efforts continue to be safe and gradual.

However, residents can’t just show up. The town is asking that if someone is interested in attending a council meeting, they have to register via email to the Town’s Clerks’ Division at [email protected] by noon on the day of the meeting.

If the 30 spaces are already filled, residents will be emailed to stay home.

“This is an exciting step as we return to regular business in our Town Council Chambers,” stated CAO Marnie Cluckie. “Staff is delighted to be reopening Committee of the Whole and Council meetings for in-person attendance by the public.”

Live webcasting of all meetings will continue.
