Niagara Parks recently announced that it will spend $1.8 million to resurface the South Niagara Parkway.
On July 28, the organization said the project, which is part of its capital plan, will kick off on July 31 and last until Aug. 25.
Niagara Parks will be working with Rankin Construction to resurface 10 kilometres of the parkway.
Starting on Monday, workers will commence paving work from Service Road 8 to Service Road 6.
Work will be paused during the civic long weekend (August 4-7) and will resume the following week from Ives Gateway to Service Road 18.
“Niagara Parks is proud to invest in this significant repaving project as part of our asset management plan to improve the conditions along the South Niagara Parkway,” said Niagara Parks Chair April Jeffs in a statement.
“Beyond just providing access for the local community, the South Niagara Parkway is an opportunity to venture off the beaten path to enjoy some of the region’s most stunning views of the upper Niagara River.”
Niagara Parks says the second section is expected to be completed by Aug. 25.
The road will remain open during construction, with traffic control operators managing the flow of vehicular traffic.
