A fire yesterday (June 15) at a derelict barn in Fort Erie is being ruled as “suspicious” by the Niagara Police.

Police and the Fort Erie fire department were called to the scene in the Bertie Street and Ridgemount Road area at 7 am, finding the barn “fully engulfed by fire” when they arrived.

Police said afterwards, “The barn had been un-used for several years and was in a poor condition.  With no utilities (gas/electrical) being active at the barn, the fire is being considered suspicious in nature.”

Estimated damage value has not yet been determined.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact detectives by calling 905-688-4111, option 3, extension 1009369.

Anyone (residents or businesses or motorists) in the area with closed circuit security cameras, doorbell video cameras, or dash cameras are asked to review their footage for suspicious activity for the period between 6:00 am and 7:30 am on June 15.
