The costly break-in at the Pen Centre mall on February 10 has seen the Niagara Police charge a St. Catharines man.

Collin Lauzon, 25, of St. Catharines has been charged with break and enter, as well as break and enter to commit theft under $5,000 today (Feb 22). He is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.

On February 10, the police responded to a break-and-enter call at the mall where the suspect left a sizable trail of broken glass.

Their investigation showed that the man smashed through an exterior glass door using a hammer. Once inside, he went to a store near the food court and smashed its window, stealing a $300 skateboard.

Rather than leave the way he came in, he smashed through the glass of yet another door at the rear entrance and escaped on foot. In the end, he caused $5,000 worth of damage.

Police were able to identify him from the security footage above and below.
