With both a court order in hand and a declared state of emergency by the Province of Ontario, Niagara police have doubled down on their warning to truckers threatening to disrupt the Peace Bridge today.

Yesterday, organizers of the “Freedom Convoy”, who have been staging disruptive and economically harmful blockades in Windsor and Ottawa, said a similar protest was planned for today at the bridge between Fort Erie and Buffalo, NY.

In response, police said they were aware of the event and would be monitoring to ensure community safety.

“We will be ready to respond and adapt to any potentially dangerous situation,” said a spokesperson for the force.

Today, Niagara police reiterated their readiness and said they expect all participants to follow the Criminal Code of Canada and the Highway Traffic Act and take appropriate road safety precautions.
