After finding a passed-out St Catharines man in a stolen truck yesterday morning (September 22), Niagara Police found themselves forced to tase him twice just to get him handcuffed.
At 7:30 am, police responded to a call of a suspected drunk driver in the Spring Street and Queenston Street area. When they approached the pick-up truck, they saw the man slumped over the steering wheel.
Waking him up, the police ordered him out of the truck but he instead tried to throw it in drive and take off. They were only able to stop him by using a taser. Once out of the truck, he continued to fight so they had to tase him again just to get the cuffs on.
Once arrested, police said he was in a “drowsy-impaired” state so they called in the EMS, who took him to the hospital for safety’s sake.
Before long, the police discovered the truck had been stolen from the Niagara-on-the-Lake area on September 18. Checking the cab of the truck, they found drug paraphernalia, drug packaging, a stolen Ontario licence plate and a baggy containing a “white powder suspected to be cocaine.”
Jeremy Troy Boyer, 31, of St. Catharines has been charged with driving while impaired, flight from the police, resisting arrest, property of stolen goods both over and under $5,000, possession of drugs, driving under probation and two counts of failing to follow probation.
He will appear at the Robert S. K. Welch Courthouse in St. Catharines on December 3.
