With social media, it’s hard for many parents not to crow about their children’s achievements.

One of the biggest days on Facebook, Twitter and the other platforms is children’s first day back to school.

Niagara Police say they understand this but at the same time urge caution and common sense.

“Please remember that not all the people on your social media are your friends,” they said in a release.

“We would urge you to keep details about them general and avoid providing any specifics on their personal information.”

In other words, keep information such as their names, their actual schools and their teachers as vague as possible. “Avoid providing any specifics on their personal information.”

Niagara students will return to school on September 6.
