A Niagara Police officer is off the hook after the Director of the Special Investigations Unit ruled the officer did nothing wrong in an arrest that saw a woman break her elbow.
On February 15, officers were called for assistance after a 37-year-old woman refused to leave a detoxification centre in St. Catharines.
She was arrested for trespassing and escorted outside where she was released. She quickly tried to re-enter the property. An officer tripped the woman and she suffered a fractured elbow.
Director of the Special Investigations Unit Joseph Martin found no reasonable grounds to believe that the subject officer comported himself other than lawfully in his dealings with the woman, leaving no basis for proceeding with criminal charges in this case.
