The Niagara Police warned revelers that they’d be out in full force on St. Paddy’s Day (March 17) and they were true to their word.
Concentrating heavily on the St. Catharines and Thorold area because of the high number of Brock University students, they set up two RIDE spot checks, pulling over 600 cars.
In the end, 17 drivers are asked to give a breath sample and one failed. The driver was arrested and their car impounded for seven days.
Two drivers set off the ‘Alert’ warning (over 0.05 but less than 0.08 blood alcohol concentration) which resulted in three-day suspensions.
The police said that “several” tickets were also issued for non-alcohol-related offences.
